What's new in R5 Dec 2026 Update
This list details the changes users can expect in the upcoming SLS December 2026 Release (Release 5), which will be rolled out on 3 December 2026. Please note that SLS will be unavailable from Tuesday, 1 December 2026 to Thursday, 3 December 2026 to facilitate this update.
Features for All Users
Annotation Enhancements
Teachers and students can add annotations to the question body in poll, discussion and Learning Assistant (LEA) 1-to-1 questions in assignments, assessments, MOE Library modules, My Drive and group resources.
Teachers and students can add annotations to text displayed in tooltips, allowing them to make additional notes on information provided within tooltip content.
Feedback Assistant - Mathematics (FA-Math) Enhancements
Teachers and students can view descriptive tags that align with Key Conceptual Understandings in Mathematics when reviewing feedback in FeedbackAssistant - Mathematics (FA-Math) annotation cards.
Homepage
The classic homepage will no longer be available from 3 December 2026. Users should switch to the new homepage, where they can pin, unpin, and rearrange shortcuts for quick and easy access to frequently used features.
Login Enhancements
The option to log in through MIMS will be replaced by Edupass. Users are encouraged to log in through Edupass as it is the preferred sign-in method.
When using the Log in with SLS option, users can use the autocomplete feature to enter their SLS username more quickly and easily. Their Edupass username will now serve as their SLS username.
SLS Helpdesk
There will also be a link to the Contact Support form from SLS error pages to help users submit issues to the Helpdesk.
Teachers and students can also access the Contact Support form directly from the Help widget available on all SLS pages.
UI/UX Enhancements
Assignments and Assessments Redirection
Teachers and students will be redirected to the Assignments page instead of the Homepage when they click Exit in an assignment, allowing quicker access to other assignments. The same applies to assessments, where they will be redirected to the Assessments page.
Banner Height
The height of banners in pages like App Library, Community Gallery, External Resources and MOE Library has been optimised to provide more viewing space after a search is done.
Drawing Tool
The “Clear All” function in the Drawing Tool now removes all drawings while keeping the base image (if any) intact.
The default text size in the Drawing Tool has been increased for better clarity.
Smaller images in the Drawing Tool will now be displayed at a maximum of 100% zoom by default, reducing blurriness and pixelation.
Module Cards
Module cards in Browse, Community Gallery, Find Resources and Planner have been revamped to reduce visual clutter for a cleaner, more intuitive browsing experience.
My Subjects
Under My Subjects, teachers and students can first select a level before viewing and following the subjects available for that level.
Subject cards have also been refreshed with an updated look.
Page Navigation
Teachers and students viewing an activity with pages or a quiz will see a more compact view for the page navigator, providing more screen space to view the quiz contents.
PDF Viewing
Teachers and students can now open PDFs in a new browser tab for a larger viewing area.
Print-friendly Worksheet and Print-to-scan Functions
Print-friendly worksheets and print-to-scan functions now include the question stimuli for Free-Response Questions (FRQ), Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), and Multi-Response Questions (MRQ) when included, so teachers and students can retain the relevant context for these questions.
Subject Selection
Subject dropdowns for teachers and students will display only active subjects.
For Tagging: When teachers or administrators edit an existing item tagged to an inactive subject, the dropdown will display the selected inactive subject together with all active subjects. For new items or items tagged to active subjects, only active subjects will be displayed.
For Filters: Subject filters for administrators will display both active and inactive subjects, with inactive subjects listed at the bottom.
Unpublished MOE Library Modules
Instead of a generic 404 error page, teachers and students who access an unpublished MOE Library module will see a page directing them to alternative resources in the MOE Library.
Upvote
Teachers and students can upvote modules more conveniently, such as from the module itself, after a teacher copies, assigns or adds a module to resources, and after a student completes an MOE Library module.
Features for Teachers
Annotation Enhancements
Teachers can add text, image, video and audio annotations to resources in groups or community, making it easier to provide feedback and updates within SLS when collaborating with other teachers. These annotations are only visible to teachers and are not shared with students.
Teachers can add annotations to options in Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), and suggested answer in Audio-Response Questions (ARQ) and Free-Response Questions (FRQ).
Authoring Enhancements
Continue Editing in Current Tab
Teachers who are already editing a module in another tab or window can take over their existing edit session in the current tab or window, allowing them to continue editing without returning to the original tab or window.
Fill-in-the-Blanks Questions
Teachers will see Fill-in-the-Blanks questions in a more compact authoring view, making it easier to review and edit questions with less scrolling.
Teachers can group selected blanks in Fill-in-the-Blanks questions to accept interchangeable answers. Unique correct answers for these blanks will be marked correct regardless of their order. Students will also receive feedback if they repeat an answer that has already been used for another blank in the group.
Integrated Scorable Response
Interactive Response Assistant has been renamed to Integrated Scorable Response. In addition to adding interactive (HTML5) resources that return marks and feedback upon a student’s attempt, teachers can now embed supported apps from the available apps list for this question type. Marks and feedback returned by these resources and apps will be captured in SLS.
Integrated Scorable Response is not available for team activities.
Malay Language E-Dictionary
Teachers can enable the Malay Language E-Dictionary under Module Settings. When enabled, teachers and students can retrieve definitions and add them to their notes and annotations.
Module Editor
Teachers can reorder sections and move activities within or across sections in the Module Plan by dragging and dropping them.
When changes are made in the Module Plan or Module Editor, teachers will see a save icon and status in the module header, providing clearer confirmation that edits have been preserved.
Teachers will see an updated button in the Module Editor to switch from Edit mode to View mode.
Multiple-Choice Questions and Multi-Response Questions
Teachers will see Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) and Multi-Response Questions (MRQ) in a more compact authoring view, making it easier to review and edit questions with less scrolling.
Parallel Editing of Activities for Resources
Teachers can edit different activities within the same resource in a group or community at the same time, making it easier to co-author resources without having to take turns.
Teachers will see an updated "Edit" button when entering Edit Mode for modules, activities, and quizzes. Teachers can choose to edit the entire module or the current activity/quiz using the dropdown beside the "Edit" button.
Prepopulated Student Response
Teachers can add images from MOE Library and Community Gallery to prepopulated student responses in Free-Response Questions (FRQ) and Discussions for students to draw on using the Drawing Tool. Teachers will be informed via a banner if the image added does not permit drawing or modification under its licence terms.
Question and Test Interoperability (QTI) Import
Teachers can now import suggested answers for Free Response Questions (FRQ) as well as option feedback for Fill-in-the-Blanks questions, Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) and Multiple-Response Questions (MRQ).
Rubric Enhancements

Teachers can customise the number of bands for each criterion.
Fixed marks are now displayed as single values (e.g. 2).
The maximum number of bands and criteria has been increased to 10 each.
Side-by-side Layout
Teachers can enable a side-by-side layout for Multi-Part Questions (MPQ), allowing students to view the question stem and part questions close to each other when answering.
Teachers can enable a side-by-side layout for Audio-Response Questions (ARQ), allowing students to view the question and response area close to each other.
Teachers can enable a side-by-side layout for Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), Multi-Response Questions (MRQ), and Free-Response Questions (FRQ), allowing students to view the stimulus and questions close to each other when answering. When enabling a side-by-side layout, the stimulus field appears on the left.
Stimulus field
Teachers can add a stimulus field to Free-Response Questions (FRQ), Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), and Multi-Response Questions (MRQ), keeping supporting context separate from the question body for easier reference while students answer. The stimulus field also supports a side-by-side layout for these question types.
When teachers download student responses for Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), Multi-Response Questions (MRQ), and Free-Response Questions (FRQ), the downloaded file will include the question stimuli for reference.
When teachers set up a Learning Feedback Assistant, the content in the stimulus will be sent to the Learning Feedback Assistant as context.
Teachers can now search for keywords within a stimulus field and view the question associated with the stimulus.
Data Assistant (DAT)
Teachers can use Data Assistant (DAT) to analyse student responses for Feedback Assistant - Mathematics (FA-Math) Multi-step and Math Table, as well as Fill-in-the-Blanks questions.
Error Prevention
Teachers will see an updated confirmation prompt before permanently deleting a module, section, activity, or quiz, helping to prevent accidental deletion.
Hide Groups
Owners and co-teachers can hide and unhide groups that they are currently not using, keeping the group listing focused on relevant groups. Hidden groups will be hidden from both teachers and students. However, teachers can still access hidden groups by filtering for “Hidden” on the Groups page.
Active assignments from hidden groups will still be visible on the assignment listing page.
Knowledge Base Enhancement
When uploading a PDF as a knowledge base, teachers can now capture pages from the PDF and use them as images.
Learning Assistant (LEA) 1-to-1 (Speech)
When setting up Learning Assistant (LEA) 1-to-1, teachers can now choose from three modes: Text, Speech, or Speech and Text.
Teachers can choose from five voice options and adjust the speaking speed.
In Speech mode, teachers can choose whether transcripts are displayed to students during the discussion.
Teachers can review the transcript and listen to the audio recordings after the discussion.

Teachers can adjust marks that have already been awarded for standalone Audio-Response Questions (ARQ), Free-Response Questions (FRQ), and Multiple-Part Questions (MPQ) containing FRQs or ARQs, allowing students to receive more accurate marks.
Aggregated Student Response Page
On the Aggregated Student Response page, teachers can view, edit, and delete the latest feedback for Free-Response Questions (FRQ) and Audio-Response Questions (ARQ) without navigating to the teacher-student view.
Teachers can also mark responses to Free-Response Questions (FRQ) using the Drawing Tool directly from the Aggregated Student Response page.
