(A3,3) Insert Chinese or Tamil Text
Set up Chinese or Tamil text input on your device to use these languages in SLS, with steps provided for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.
(A3,3) Insert Chinese or Tamil Text
To insert Chinese or Tamil text in SLS, your device will need to allow language input in either language.
Windows 10 PCs
In the Search box of your desktop, type "Language Settings".
Click "Add a Language".
From the list of languages, select "Chinese (Simplified, China)" or "Tamil (India)".
Click "Next"
Click "Install" and wait for installation to be complete.
Back on the "Languages" page, you will see your newly installed input language.
Click on the language, and "Options".
Under Keyboards, click "Add a keyboard".
By default, Microsoft Pinyin Input should be shown as the Chinese (Simplified, China) keyboard, and Tamil99 should be shown for Tamil (India) keyboard.
To input your desired language, press the Windows key + Space to switch between your keyboards.
Android Devices
On your Android phone or tablet, open "Settings".
Tap "System", then select "Languages & Input".
Under "Keyboards," select "Virtual Keyboard".
Select "GBoard", then "Languages".
Pick a language - "Chinese (Simplified, China)" or "Tamil (India)".
Turn on the layout that you want to use.
Tap "Done".
To input your desired language, tap on the World button on your keyboard, then select the language.
Mac
On your Mac, choose Apple menu, then "System Settings".
Click "Keyboard", under Input Sources, click "Edit…".
Click the "+" button on the bottom left, select “Chinese, Simplified,” or “Tamil ”, then select an input source in the list on the right ("Pinyin- Simplified", "Handwriting - Simplified" for Chinese or "Tamil 99" for Tamil).
Click Add.
To input in the language, click the Input menu in the menu bar, then select the language.
OS (iPad/ iPhone)
On your iPad/ iPhone, open "Settings".
Under “General”, select "Language & Region".
Tap "Add Language..."
Select “Chinese, Simplified,” or “Tamil”.
You will be prompted to change the primary language of your iOS system. If you do not wish to change your iPhone/ iPad language, select "Use English"
After the new language has been added, it will appear in the list. You may wish to arrange the languages in the order of your preference.
To input in the language, tap the World button on your keyboard, then select the language.
